10 tips for taking care of your skin in summer

Teresa de Miguel Miró

Everything seems to revolve around protection. Avoiding sunburn and achieving the deepest tan becomes the main focus of beauty routines, but summer, high temperatures, and the omnipresence of the sun put your skin to a tough test.

The team at Beldon Beauty wants to share with you what we believe is a must-follow routine for this time of year. 10 tips for taking care of your skin in summer. The goal? Beyond returning to work with a good tan, doing so with your skin in perfect condition.

TIPS FOR TAKING CARE OF YOUR SKIN IN SUMMER

  1. Short, lukewarm showers. In summer, we shower more often to remove sweat and dust or sand from the skin. Do it briefly, with a gentle soap and at a moderate temperature. You know that prolonged contact with water and high temperatures dries out the skin.

  2. Extra hydration. Once out of the shower, you have two options: spread a nourishing oil over your still-damp skin or dry yourself well and apply a good body moisturizer—or after-sun if you have been sunbathing—all over your body.

  3. What about your face? It faces heat, solar rays, wind… and it doesn’t have it easy when it comes to fighting the signs of aging. That’s not to mention dark spots, which wait for the slightest cosmetic oversight to settle in. Do you still think it’s excessive to start using creams with depigmenting active ingredients?

  4. External hydration. You have to drink two liters of water a day and avoid alcoholic beverages which, although they quench thirst, dehydrate the body.

  5. Fruits, vegetables, lean meats, fish, and seafood… these are the foods that best hydrate the body.

  6. Elbows and heels, special care. Rub the driest areas like heels or elbows with exfoliating sponges or a pumice stone. Follow with hydration.

  7. Exfoliation, twice a week. It is more necessary in summer since more dirt accumulates on the skin. Don't hesitate to add this extra care to your shower—no, it won't take away your tan.

  8. Take care of your hair. Rinse it whenever you leave the sea or the pool. Salt and chlorine can damage it.

  9. Conditioner, always. It is your ally to prevent dryness and split ends. You can use it directly, even if you haven't used shampoo beforehand.

  10. Sun shielding. Never leave the house without proper protection, and it is best to apply it 20 minutes before sun exposure.
