Interview with

Maria Saints

And beauty in all areas

Biography

I am from Marbella, and I came to Madrid to study at university. Although I first studied law, my true calling was interior design, so as soon as I finished my degree, I started studying interior architecture at the polytechnic university. While still studying, I took on projects of my own and did internships at other studios; however, as soon as I graduated, I set up my own studio. That was 6 years ago. In general, I consider myself a very perfectionist and slightly stubborn person; when I have something clear in my mind, I fight for it, hence my need to control the entire work process and to work for myself. I needed to develop my proposals without the filter of another studio—it's hard enough convincing clients as it is! At the beginning, the studio was very small, but it soon began to grow little by little, taking very sure steps, until it became what it is today. This is thanks to the clients who have supported us and trusted us.

“Inspiration is everywhere”

- What is beauty to you and how does it connect to your creative work?

With our projects, we seek an aesthetic; we seek to create beautiful homes, and that is why for us, beauty is fundamental in every aspect. We are talking about our field as much as any creative profession, fashion, and, of course, personal care. We value and seek beauty in all its senses.

- What inspires you to create spaces?

Inspiration is everywhere; you have to walk around with your eyes wide open because any texture, a piece of furniture, a material, or even a sound can inspire a new idea and articulate a project. Personally, I really like walking around and noticing traditional architecture. I like looking at church floors, the doors of classic buildings, the plasterwork that was done in the past...

“Find a signature style, make people identify your spaces”

- What is the best piece of advice you have been given during your professional career?

The best advice I was given was to find a signature, to get people to identify my spaces. It is not so much about repeating the same resource or constantly doing the same project, but about being true to yourself, trusting your judgment to always stay within your style, and not trying to follow trends or go against what you think is best.

- What is your morning routine?

Before showering, I wash my face well, and after the shower, while my skin is still a bit damp, I apply serum, eye contour, and moisturizer. Finally, a little bit of petroleum jelly, and I'm ready for the day.

- An infallible trick or product

I use the Lait U cleanser from Biologique Recherche, and in the morning, after using it, I don't rinse it off with water, which keeps my face very hydrated. Another product I love is the brightening mask from Natura Bissé.

- How do you take care of your beauty from the inside?

I try to take care of my diet from Monday to Friday. On weekends, I forget about it and enjoy all the treats I like. Additionally, I work out two days a week and try to drink two liters of water daily.

- A pending task when it comes to beauty

Many! For example, doing body treatments throughout the year.
When summer approaches, I try to do them, but I always run out of time.
