Interview with
Magally Capriles
A conscious and purposeful life
Biography
Magally Capriles, 30, is passionate about wellness. She is the CEO and co-founder of Lamarca Well, Roots Lamarca, and Tracy Anderson Method Madrid—three concepts of retail, dining, and fitness that combine to form a Wellness Hub in Madrid at 10 Calle Fernando VI, where gatherings are constantly taking place. But Lamarca Well goes further; it is now transforming into a digital space or platform where you can not only purchase products but also read and learn about wellness topics from the hands of voices and experts in fields such as health, sports, conscious nutrition, mental health, mindfulness, natural beauty, sustainability, and anything related to well-being.
Who is Magally as a leader and as a person?
I am the eldest of 3 sisters and the first of 7 grandchildren on my mother’s side; I think that greatly influenced my personality, as I always wanted to teach and lead within my small circle of sisters and cousins. Plus, my sign is Aries, and I understand that has a lot to do with being the first sign of the zodiac. Since I was little, I have liked to learn and share what I have learned, not only with my family but also with my friends.
I have always shared every experience, every mistake, every trial, and every lesson openly, as I like being able to help those close to me live the positive things I discover or avoid the mistakes I make myself. I love listening and giving advice; sometimes I think I would have been happy as a psychologist or coach.
I love learning, reading, and reflecting. I have a creative and musical side that I never developed as an adult, however, I believe that entrepreneurship has given me the space to use my creative side to dream, combining it with leadership and my dream of infecting everyone with the desire to live a life of well-being.
Tell us, what has been your journey to becoming an entrepreneur?
I was born in Venezuela and raised there until I landed in Madrid at 25. Here, despite it being very hard for me to detach from my homeland, I found a welcoming city, full of family and friends, that allowed me to continue learning about my passion: wellness.
I studied law in Caracas, but it wasn't until I started a project that I discovered what I truly liked. I am a lover of nature, sports in general, healthy living, environmental awareness, and recently, yoga as mindfulness; I had always been surrounded by the philosophy of living in movement and wellness, as those are the values we practiced as a family from a young age. However, at 22, I developed a boutique gym in Venezuela with two friends, where I finally discovered the innate passion I had for wellness.
When I moved to Madrid in 2017, I knew there was nothing else I wanted to do. And so, together with my two sisters Mischka and Mayra, Lamarca Well was born. It is primarily composed of Lamarca Well, Roots Lamarca, and Tracy Anderson Method Madrid.
“I like being able to help those close to me experience the positive things I discover.”
What is Lamarca Well and what is its philosophy?
Lamarca Well (formerly Lab Lamarca) is a platform where you can buy, read, and learn everything about wellness from the hands of voices and experts in the field (All things Wellness). The shop focuses on products that promote health and well-being: activewear and comfortwear, a WellBar filled with innovative health products, natural beauty items, nutricosmetics, supplements, nutrition programs, among others; as well as accessories and books related to a healthy lifestyle, travel, and sustainability. The content platform is constantly growing with quality content (articles, interviews, videos, audio) on any topic related to wellness. Furthermore, it has a physical space, which is where it all began—our "flagship": a store on Calle Fernando VI in the Justicia neighborhood of Madrid, which quickly became a space for hosting events, pop-ups, experts, and wellness projects. Within this project, there is also Roots Lamarca, a healthy food restaurant and raw vegan bakery that now has 4 locations in Madrid, and Tracy Anderson Method Madrid, the first center in Europe of this well-known American trainer.
The philosophy of Lamarca Well is based on an active, healthy, and conscious lifestyle. Active, because it is important to be in motion; as human beings, we must move, stretch, dance, and walk. Healthy, because it is extremely important for our well-being that we take care of our eating and sleeping habits, and our daily practices to care for our mental, physical, and spiritual health. Conscious, because all of this must be done with awareness, being present, understanding why, rather than just following the latest trend. Furthermore, we must have consciousness not only for ourselves but for the planet we live on, with which we must be in harmony and which we must take care of to be in balance; only then is well-being truly achieved.
What drove you to create this project?
Many things: first, my desire to continue developing my entrepreneurial spirit, which I had just discovered. Also, the excitement of bringing something new to Madrid that wasn't being talked about as much as in other parts of the world. This was combined with the desire to continue learning and developing myself in the wellness sector for my own health and to be able to share it with others. My family: on one hand, my husband, who always pushes me to trust in myself and to take the leap, and has been a great support and pillar of this project. And on the other hand, my sisters and, above all, my parents, who have not only always taught us by example to lead an active, healthy, and conscious life, but have also been an example of always “doing things,” and doing them with purpose. Because if you do something with a purpose that goes beyond yourself or financial gain, for some magical reason, things work out. Because it is not the goal itself that you are chasing—though of course that is important—but that along the way you know you are learning, helping, and contributing your grain of sand to the world.
I love knowing that the products we sell, the content we write, and the service we offer is capable of changing lives and contributing to people's well-being. It is very rewarding and is a great motivator to keep going even when difficult or stressful moments arise.
“We must have consciousness not only for ourselves, but for the planet on which we live.”How do you balance your project with a healthy lifestyle?
It is closely related; sometimes I feel like it is the same thing. This project was born from the lifestyle we led as a family, and only in this way has it evolved. Only by living it and implementing it can you share it. Everything I discover through my project I try to apply to my daily life, and everything I discover on my own living in wellness, I try to transfer to the project, researching more to be able to share it with the world. This applies to products we discover to sell in the store, topics or content that we then develop in depth by seeking experts who can communicate them better, and innovative food and recipes that we introduce at Roots.
- Relationship with beauty:
What is beauty to you and how do you live it in your routine?
To me, beauty is not only what you show on the outside but also what you radiate; it is what you carry inside. In my evolution and personal growth with wellness, I have realized the relationship between looking good by working from the inside out, and feeling good by working on the outside in, as the latter improves self-esteem. This is why I increasingly incorporate things into my routine that make me feel and look good, and I get rid of things that I know bring me discomfort. Believe it or not, every little thing influences your inner health, which is then reflected in your exterior health and beauty. More of the good, less of the bad.
What or who inspires you in your day-to-day?
EVERYONE! We all have to learn and we all have something to teach. I love reflecting with people on any kind of thing that might be happening in their lives or mine: achievements or failures, dreams or sorrows, insecurities and fears, experiences. It helps me grow.
Who are your beauty icons?
This is a tough one! If I have to talk about icons: I am inspired by my mother who looks like she’s 30; I am inspired by everything that radiates beauty and vitality in the skin, because through it, you can see that they are well internally, that they love themselves, and make an effort to take care of themselves.
I am also very inspired by all those who radiate self-confidence and spread it to others, especially those who let themselves be seen with their flaws and without complexes, who admire and love their body, their skin, their face, their hair, and do not use filters—neither on social media nor in life.
What is the best advice you have ever been given?
Ugh, many… but recently, Bernardino, my yoga teacher, gave me one of the best I have ever heard:
What happens if you are skiing among pine trees and you are looking at the trees? You crash! As in every sport: “where you look is where you go.”
If you aren't looking at the trees and you are looking at the path, you dodge them. The same thing happens in life. If you go through life looking at the problems, you are going to keep crashing into them; it’s better to look at the solutions (the path) and that way you navigate life in a more fluid way without crashing so much, because in any case, even if you do crash, sooner or later you will have to stop and keep going along the path.
“Beauty is not only what you show on the outside but also what you radiate, which is what you carry inside.”
- Beauty Questionnaire:
What is your self-care routine?
My routine consists of eating healthy most of the time and skipping it when the enjoyment contributes more to my well-being than restricting myself would.
I always start my day with a green juice, and if I don't, I notice it. I also fast a lot; at least 3 times a year I do 5-day assisted fasts, and the benefits I see both inside and out are impressive. The benefits of fasting on health, mental clarity, and longevity are well proven. I prioritize sleep over everything, a minimum of 7 hours of sleep, but if I can sleep 8 or 9, even better. I exercise a lot; it contributes to feeling good physically, which is a big part of “beauty,” and I am convinced it also influences my mood.
As for my skin beauty routine, I recently started taking it more seriously. I try to take care of my skin with professionals once a month; I use a lot of moisturizer several times a day since the Madrid climate is very dry, I use hyaluronic acid daily, and if I feel dehydrated, I use a Vitamin C Serum. My favorite brand is Barbara Sturm, but I also use some specific products from Natura Bissé and Biologique. All of this has changed my skin and therefore my self-esteem.
I don't use makeup, only the brand RMS; almost all their products are made with a coconut oil base and provide a lot of radiance without looking too “made up” or clogging your face with excess components.
Regarding other habits, I try to get massages of any kind (Ayurveda, lymphatic, relaxing) 1 or 2 times a week, or I swap it for alternative therapies like Shiatsu or Craniosacral. I see an alternative medicine doctor bi-monthly, who guides me on how to supplement depending on how my body is doing. I use natural deodorant (Malin + Goetz) as it is a very delicate area that shouldn't be subjected to contact with toxins; I practice tongue scraping every morning and dry brushing when I remember (as I tend to forget), the same with Gua Sha. I don't drink coffee; I drink a lot of Tea and Cacao. I supplement my days with adaptogens like Ashwagandha and Reishi depending on what I need.
I strive to find space to do things that relax me or give me satisfaction, like being with my family, going out with friends when I need to clear my head, spending time in nature, seeing the sea, doing yoga or sports, singing or listening to music, and sometimes just being in silence. Finally, and most importantly, I am constantly trying to be CONSCIOUS and learn to listen to my body, the signals it gives me to know myself better and know what I need and when I need it to achieve that inner and outer beauty and that holistic health that encompasses them both.An infallible trick or product:
Product:
- Barbara Sturm (Hyaluronic Serum, Sun drops, Face Cream, The Good C Vitamin C Serum).
Tricks:
- Green juice in the morning.
- Fast 3 times a year to prevent chronic diseases: I recommend the PROLON program.
- Exercise for self-esteem and good mood.
- Practice Yoga for mental balance, anxiety, and stress (if you find it hard to meditate, find a yoga teacher to help you with poses for meditation).
- Pamper yourself at least once a week for your inner and outer beauty: massage, facial, alternative therapy, or self-care at home with Gua Sha, dry brush, lighting candles, and just being with yourself.
- One I discovered recently and has worked for me more than 5 times this year: Stop colds with turmeric. Lots of turmeric in your breakfast, in your teas throughout the day, at lunch, at your dinners.
Pending tasks (as far as beauty is concerned):
Managing to get back to the rhythm of exercise that I like and that I have put aside for my daughters (without pressure, everything in due time), as well as my reading habits, especially on wellness topics, and getting up when the sun rises. Bathing with colder water, protecting myself from the sun, using 100% natural shampoos. Less mobile phone and TV at night to avoid harming my circadian rhythms and sleeping better. Continuing to work on and improve my yoga, meditation, and mindfulness practices because we already know the benefits they have on beauty and health.
