When beauty meets art

Biography

“Creativity has always been a part of my life. I studied design at Parson’s School of Design in NY and worked for several years in the fashion industry, both in NY and Madrid. I completed my training with a master’s degree in graphic design.

Art has always been present, both on a personal and professional level. It has always influenced my work and been a great source of inspiration for me.

Fashion and graphic design were nothing more than preparation for what became my true passion: CREATING pieces where I could show my emotions, my way of seeing life, where my most intimate self is reflected.

I consider my work a part of myself... optimistic, colorful, cheerful, but at the same time pure geometry and interplay of planes, creating depth, where my need for order and my constant search to delve into what really matters can be found. And showing that everything, just like in life, has several planes.

As for my personal life, I am very family-oriented, I love having friends over at home. Traveling, especially around Asia, reading a lot, researching, discovering restaurants, galleries, and museums.”

What does beauty mean to you and what role does it play in art from your point of view?

“Beauty is in everyone; you just have to learn to look without judgment. Even the greatest imperfections can be beautiful, and we shouldn’t always be guided by established canons.
Beauty is part of loving and taking care of oneself from the inside and, above all, smiling no matter what happens in life. Beauty is in nature, but also in small things, in everyday objects, in moments we live… This has made me a very observant person and helped me value the number of beautiful things that surround us.

As for art… A piece that is capable of moving you, of making you feel good, that you want to look at endlessly, that makes you feel curious… that’s where the beauty of being able to express yourself through your work lies!”

What inspires you to create your works? And tell us, is there any work that has been especially significant for you?

“My work is heavily influenced by oriental minimalism. My travels through Asia, especially to Japan, are a constant injection of inspiration. Origami and its culture in general, so complex, modern yet traditional, fascinates me! In terms of colors, I am inspired by nature, a landscape, the sea, a sunset… but also by the use of color by other artists, from classical painters like El Greco or Vermeer to Bridget Riley or Josef Albers.

All the works are significant to me; they are all very meditated and emerge from the mood I am in at any given moment, but I really enjoy it when I take risks and make pieces that, while within my style, are different, like the E L E K T R A series.”

What is the best piece of advice you have been given throughout your professional career?

“Fight to achieve your dreams and be very consistent, but always be honest with yourself and with others.”

Who are your beauty icons?

“My mother; she was a great beauty on the outside, but especially on the inside. She explained to me the importance of taking care of yourself without becoming obsessed, as it is a sign of respect for oneself and for others. She taught me many beauty routines that I always apply, but without forgetting to also take care of our inner self and that of the people around us.

I like different types of beauty and people who perhaps don’t fit the beauty stereotype that they try to impose on us now through social media, but who, with their movements, elegance, and style, are hyper-attractive, like, for example, Cate Blanchett.

I also really like Diane Kruger, Alicia Vikander, Taylor Tomasi Hill, or Giorgia Tordini.”

BEAUTY QUESTIONNAIRE

- What is your morning routine?

“A glass of warm water as soon as I wake up, a nice ‘conscious shower,’ and a very good breakfast (it’s my favorite meal of the day). Whole-wheat toast with virgin olive oil, avocado, and plenty of fruit. Of course, I don’t leave the house without applying vitamin C serum, a super moisturizer, and sunscreen.”

- Favorite products

“Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Glow Drops to brighten the skin. It’s perfect for an important occasion—to put on top of makeup or with nothing at all! They leave your skin looking incredible. La Prairie’s Skin Caviar Liquid Lift and Freshly Cosmetics’ Golden Radiance Body Oil to moisturize the body.”

- An infallible trick or product

“I love enhancing my eyes; they say a lot about each person, especially now that we are always wearing a mask. I’m obsessed with eyelashes. Every night I apply M2 Beauté Eyelash Activating Serum and it works great!
I also like the Charlotte Tilbury highlighter, Beauty Light Wand; I use it when I go out at night.”

- Favorite beauty look that never fails you

“I used to wear a lot of makeup, I’ve always found it fun... However, now I believe that having good skin and applying a light foundation, mascara, hydrated lips, and blush is more than enough. The more natural, the better!”

- How do you take care of your beauty from the inside?

“When everything is going well on the inside, it shows on the outside. We are a reflection of how we are feeling emotionally, and that is why it is extremely important to keep your inner self healthy. Thanks to my mother-in-law, Ana Pellón, I discovered mindfulness—she is a teacher—and although I don’t practice it as much as I should, she taught me to live in the moment, in the here and now.

It’s very important for mental peace!
I also watch my diet without exaggerating; I practically don’t eat any sugar or fried foods, and I’m lucky that I love all kinds of vegetables and fruits, so I eat them non-stop.”

- Favorite exercise or sport

“I’m not very sporty! I train 2 or 3 times a week with my trainer, Ana, at Metropolitan Abascal, where I mainly do exercises to tone up, but what I like the most is taking very long walks, both in Madrid and in the countryside, with my husband, Yago.”

- Pending subject (as far as beauty is concerned)

“Many! Drinking more water, applying moisturizer to my body, exercising more… Although, as I get older, I am increasingly aware of the importance of taking care of yourself in order to stay well, and I try to be serious and consistent with my routines.”

For us, you are PERFECT, but tell us if there is anything you like a little less about yourself, and what you have managed to improve, based on self-confidence, over time.

“A thousand thanks! But I’m not perfect at all. I have days where I find flaws everywhere, but it’s true that over the years you put things into perspective a lot and learn that, sometimes, you shouldn’t look at yourself so much. I used to hate my freckles (I have them all over my face, especially in summer) and I used all kinds of products to cover them up and try to have uniform skin. Now I accept them as part of me and sometimes, I even like them!”
